Hillmorton Juniors 3 - 0 Kenilworth Wardens Colts
Today was a missed opportunity to move off the bottom of the table, being on the same points as Hillmorton at the start of the day. The Colts started the match brightly enough up front, but failed on three separate occasions to get to the ball before their opponents when it mattered. Backing away from high kicked balls where the Hillmorton players - some of whom were apparently 15 year old trainee lumberjacks - would head the ball straight back into attack, was the main difference between the teams in the first half. Kyle stood very little chance of keeping out their chances although he got hands to one of them, but was once again let down by statuesque defending. A point in case being their third goal, the result of a kick from the hands of the Hillmorton keeper which was allowed to bounce straight through to their forward who volleyed impressively unchallenged in our area. Three nill at half time then, seemed a fair reflection of the game up to that point, unfortunately.
The second half saw a different Colts team, now battling for the ball and creating some chances. Hillmorton were pinned down for quite some time, allowing the Colts 4 or 5 quick corners in an application of pressure that never quite got converted into clear shots on goal. The biggest cheer from the Colts' faithfull supporters came when defender Sean actually headed a high kick from the Hillmorton keeper straight back!
Late on in the match Hillmorton were awarded a penalty for some tenacious tackling in the area, but Kyle pulled of a fantastic stretching dive to tip the ball onto the post from where a galloping Ben cleared it to safety (the famous row Z kick)
