Bilton Ajax 4 - 0 Kenilworth Wardens Colts

Sunday, February 13, 2011 - 14:00

Another windy Sunday faced the Colts today with added drizzle to sting the eyes and a bitter chill to the stiff breeze. This week we started the match with the wind in our favour. We were playing a Bilton Ajax side who had improved over the course of the season since our last meeting - our first match of the season in which we pulled ourselves back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3. With the wind we managed to play some good football and competed well in midfield and defence although we produced few real chances.

Honours were even for a while until a Bilton throw-in from and advanced position on their right wing was allowed to bounce in our area and a forward player got a head to it  whereupon it looped high over our keeper's head in to the far corner of the net. Once again we were undone by a moment of static defending. The half finshed soon after and we were still competing quite well and considered ourselves unlucky to be a goal down at that stage. Kyle had performed brilliantly making

The second half started, and now we were playing into the wind and drizzle - a factor which played a major part in the second goal conceded. Kyle had claimed a good ball in his area and was kick out from his hands using the whole of his space to get the furthest distance into the gusty wind. The big kick went up, but got blown such that it didn't quite reach the half-way line. A Bilton player was waiting and got a foot to it before it landed and to Kyle's dismay it looped straight back into an empty net!

Any forward pressure we had produced to that time dispersed as we lost our way for a time and the Bilton players were able to increase their pace and took full advantage scoring a further two goals, one of which was well taken, the other being another hopeful prod which happened to find its way into our net.

Overall we played well in the first half but failed to make too many clear-cut chances, and lost our way under the onslaught of bad weather and more skilled attacks.
